Chapter Three

Deathly

There was a loud scream, from a woman that left about thirty minutes early, she burst back inside, almost crying, but not quite. “There- there’s a dead body outside!” The shocked woman exclaimed in a mild country accent. Many of the guests gasped, some even lightly cried.

I tapped my wine glass with a silver spoon to grab their attention. “Everyone! Everyone stay calm, I’m going to check it out, and nobody leave until I call the clear!” I said. Nobody responded, but I knew they heard me. I walked down the stairs, to the front door, and felt a slight knot in my throat. I hesitantly opened the front door.

It was our bodyguard. I quickly walked over to him. I checked his pulse by his wrist. “Nothing.” I said quietly. I looked around at his body; there was a tear in his shirt, and blood, right in the very center of his chest. I tore open that part of his shirt, and I saw the entry wound.

“Not a bullet, the wound isn’t in a circle shape, a dagger perhaps?” I asked myself quietly. I got my phone out of my pocket to dial the police station, a little late for an ambulance. All of a sudden, his muscles tightened, he choked up some blood. “Hey, I thought you were dead! Let me call an ambulance.” I exclaimed with a shocked smile.

“No.” He choked out. “What do you mean no? I’m saving you here!” I replied. “Th- the beast…” He said, and then collapsed. I dialed an ambulance, as I checked his pulse. He had no pulse, but I wasn’t taking any chances. “This is Darius Wulf, I need an ambulance ASAP, 2500 Northwind, wolf possibly stabbed in the chest.” I hung up; I knew that was all the info they needed.

I went back inside to give most of the details, an ambulance and a police car both arrived by the time I was done. Everyone left, luckily they didn’t see our bodyguard simply laying there, and he was loaded into the back of the ambulance. Then two police officers approached me, one human female, and one male wolf.

“Are you here to question me about something? Because there’s nothing to talk about that isn’t in that ambulance.” I said, not expecting the officers originally. “Actually, yes.” The woman officer replied.

“General Sullivan’s limo was found a few blocks down, windshield shattered, but deserted. No blood.” The wolf officer said. “He never reported back to his office like he was suppose to either, no sign of him or the driver.” The woman officer said.

“And you saw the ambulance coming here, so you thought it might be related. Alright, let’s get this over with.” I replied. Both officers looked slightly surprised I picked up on the details. We walked inside; I sat on our comfortable velvet couch, while they sat at the opposing chairs. The woman got out her notepad.

“I’ll start when the memorial started. We just finished putting up decorations, me and my sister, while my mother was taking calls. We just finished, and many people were waiting outside, last person to come in was General Sullivan, he previously said over the phone he wanted to talk about political matters, which we did, about 25 minutes after the memorial started.” I paused.

“He said he wanted complete human control over Vrajala. Of course I declined, he wasn’t very happy about that, and he left. Then about an hour later, a woman was screaming and upset about our bodyguard, on the ground with an entry wound in the very middle of his chest. That leads up to now, that’s all.” I finished.

“We’re going to need to speak to the woman that found the body as well, do you have her name?” The woman officer asked. “I don’t know it, but it’s on our guest list, which has photographs and phone numbers under the names. Our guard had…” I paused. “The guest list was taken from him, but why? No matter, we have a digital version on our computer; I’ll print one out for you.” I continued.

We walked through many rooms, until we reached our computer room, I used it the most out of my sister, mom, and I. I logged on while standing up, rather than sitting in the leather rolling chair. “I saved it in Microsoft Word.” I said.

I tried to open the file, saved as, Guest List, but it wouldn’t open. It said, error, file ‘guest list’ does not exist. “I don’t understand… I saved it. Right, it’s also in the printer memory disc.” I said while walking over to the printer.

I searched for all recent documents printed no data. “Nothing here either, how? None of the guests were allowed up here, so none of them could’ve done this.” I said, scratching my head. “Can you give us a description of what she looked like?” The wolf officer asked. “Better, I have a picture.” I said as I pulled a head shot photo of the woman off the wall.

She had curly blonde hair in a bun, green hazel eyes, smooth and clear skin, a white pearl necklace, and a red dress, very stereotypical rich human woman. I gave the photo to the woman officer. “Is that all you need?” I asked. “Surprisingly, yes, thank you for your time.” The woman officer replied.

Both officers left. The ambulance was long gone; I was planning on checking with the hospital in about an hour. Mom walked in. “This isn’t what I had in mind for this... multipurpose, party.” Mom said.

“Yeah, same. What struck me as odd is that our body guard said something about a beast. Something, somehow, frightened him.” I said.
